About Cub Scouting

The Cub Scouting program is uniquely designed to meet the needs of young children and their parents, offering fun and challenging experiences that scouts and parents do together.

Youth are looking for: Camping, Hiking, Racing, Fishing, Swimming, And more!

Parents are looking for: Values, Variety of learning experiences, Build friendships, Build self-confidence, and Learn social skills,

Children grow up fast. Give yours a valuable gift by encouraging them to join Cub Scouting today. The time you invest in them today will make a difference in the person they become tomorrow. Scouting is provided locally in neighborhoods across the country through churches, community organizations, or other groups of interested citizens.

Please visit About Cub Scouts for more info on Cub Scouting.

Ranks

Lion Cubs (Kindergarten): A less structured, beginning introduction to Cub Scouting. All activities are conducted with an adult partner.

Bobcats: All new Cub Scouts (except Lions Cubs), regardless of when they join the program, must earn the rank of Bobcat first. They must learn and be able to repeat by memory eight fundamentals of Cub Scouting including The Cub Scout Motto, Law of the Pack and Cub Scout Promise.

Tiger Cubs (First Grade): All activities are conducted with an adult partner.

Wolf – Second Grade | Bear – Third Grade | Webelos I – Fourth grade | Arrow of Light – Fifth Grade

There are Scout Handbooks for each rank, which contain information about the various achievements and activities for each rank. Each Cub Scout should have his own handbook. Parents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the handbook. Please review the first section of each Cub Scout rank’s handbook that deals with Youth Protection.

Pack Dues

Pack dues are $80 for the Scouting year. These dues cover patches, rank badges, beads, totems, pins, belt loops, trophies, medals, and advancement cards that each child collects throughout the year. Dues also cover national registration, Boys’ Life Magazine and supplies for meetings. We review the budget at every “Parent Pack Planning Meeting” each month.

Cub Scout Uniforms

Pack 180 does not require a full head-to-toe Cub Scout uniform. A minimum Class A uniform would be comprised of a rank-appropriate shirt with all required patches (World Crest, Unit Numerals 180, and Council patch), a rank-appropriate neckerchief, and rank-appropriate neckerchief glide. Items such as a Cub Scout hat are optional. (It is suggested to use a large safety pin to hold the glide onto the neckerchief to prevent losing the glide.)

Class A Uniforms are expected to be worn properly and with pride. Uniforms are to be tucked in with a pair of navy or khaki shorts or pants and covered-toe footwear (no sandals or Crocs) to all Pack events.

(Check with pack leaders to see if there may be any old uniform items in storage. The pack collects old uniforms from the scouts that do not want to keep them so we can help offset some cost for parents.)

Rank Appropriate Handbook

A rank-appropriate handbook is essential for scouts to fulfill their full potential. To make rank advancements, scouts will need to complete the requirements in their books and have each achievement signed off by their Den Leader. The Den Leader will then report advancement milestones to the Pack Leader and achievement awards will be handed out at the following Pack Meeting.
