WELCOME TO PACK 180

TRAINING THE LEADERS OF TOMORROW

Welcome to Cub Scout Pack 180!

Our Cub Pack was first chartered at Riverside United Methodist Church in 1948. The church helps us by supporting our programs, organization, and provides a safe meeting place.

We are a part of the Simon Kenton Council in Central Ohio. Most of our scouts come from Tremont Elementary School; however, we have scouts from all over Upper Arlington.

To help you prepare for the Scouting year in Pack 180, we have put together some points of interest that should help explain some of the terminology, events, and expectations that have come to be part of Cub Scouts.

Pack Meetings

Pack Meetings are typically held the fourth Tuesday of the month unless otherwise specified. The pack meetings are at St Mark’s Episcopal Church , located at 2151 Dorset Rd., Upper Arlington, OH 43221 from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

The monthly pack meeting brings together boys from every den, their leaders, and their families, to participate in a large-scale event that serves as a showcase for everything the boys have learned and done in their individual den meetings. The pack meeting gives the boys a larger experience beyond their own den and helps them connect their individual activities to the entire Cub Scouting program. Pack Meetings are where upcoming events are announced, rank achievement awards are handed out, etc…

Den Meetings

A den is a group of boys, within the pack, that meets several times a month between pack meetings. The boys in a den are usually all at the same grade level. The den structure allows boys to build relationships with leaders and other boys. The den provides opportunities for activities that would be difficult with a large group. The den also provides leadership opportunities for the boys.

Pinewood Derby

Pinewood Derby is probably our largest event of the year. Scouts have an opportunity to build and race their own cars on the pack’s vintage track.

Popcorn Fundraiser

In order to keep annual dues low and still fund all of our activities, scouts in Pack 180 sell popcorn as an annual fundraiser. The pack keeps about 30% of the popcorn sales, a portion goes the District, and the rest pays for the product. The money raised through popcorn sales allows Pack 180 to provide a more enriching Scouting program without constantly asking parents for more money during the year.

Camping

Camping at the Cub Scout level is a family event. Scouts are not allowed to camp without a parent or guardian. Pack 180 holds 2-3 campouts per scouting year. In all Cub Scout camping events, each camper is responsible for bringing all of their own camping supplies and food unless otherwise specified in advance by the campout organizer.

Cub Scout Day Camp

Cub Scout Day Camp is a District-sponsored event held during summer break. Dates, times, locations and prices will be announced later in the Scouting year. Day Camp is a wonderful opportunity for the boys to earn a lot of advancement and to have a fun time with friends.

“The camp that comes to the boy,” day camp is an accredited, organized, one- to five-day program for Scouts under trained leadership at an approved site, and is usually held during daylight or early evening hours, but not overnight. Den members are supervised by den and pack leaders.

The Blue and Gold Banquet

Blue and Gold, as it is referred to, serves several purposes. Blue and Gold has become synonymous with celebrating the birthday of Scouting, but it also signifies the point in which a Webelo 2 or Arrow of Light scout crosses out of Cub Scouts and into Boy Scouts. This is a big achievement in a scout’s journey and we recognize it as such.
