Leaders
Because every Scout deserves a trained leader
Pack 180 encourages all parents (fathers and mothers) to actively participate in the Pack Committee to help run our Pack. We also welcome any parent willing to commit to taking any of the council training courses to take the next step and become a registered uniformed leader of our pack. Contact the Pack Leaders and they can provide you with any information about Adult Leader course offerings.
Pack 180 will reimburse 100% of course costs upon completion of BSA adult and youth leadership training courses.

Adult Leader Training
Training for leaders is essential to provide consistent and quality leadership for our scouts. Adult Leadership Training helps prepare adult leaders for what to expect in their den and pack. Adult Leadership Training will also advise on how best to protect the boys as well as the leaders themselves. The Boy Scouts of America have one of the best training and literature libraries there is to be found. Some of the training can be taken online and at no fee at www.my.scouting.org.
Please note that all adult volunteers will need to complete the Youth Protection Training (YPT) available at this site.
Other training is done on-site at various locations and does sometimes have a fee involved. Pack 180 will reimburse you if approved to take the training. The Pack 180 website will have a listing of some of the training opportunities that are coming up as soon as we know them.
Leadership Training
Provides adult leaders with fundamental information about the aims and methods of the movement, as well as specifics about their particular roles in Scouting.
Youth Protection Training
Cub Scouts is based on helping the scouts be safe and have fun. To keep this goal, the National Organization requires new leaders to take a couple of online training classes. The first class is the Youth Protection Training class. This class is required before you can submit an adult application to be a leader of the pack. Estimated time to complete: 20-30 minutes.
- Follow the steps below to complete the required training.
- Follow the link my.scouting.org.
- Create an account.
- On the left hand menu select the E-Learning link.
- Select the Youth Protection class. The class takes about 45 minutes to complete.
- Once completed print out the certificate. You need to turn this in with the Adult Application.
- Once you have completed the Youth Protection training you will need to take the “Leader Position – Specific” and the “This is Scouting” training classes. If you need help determining what classes to take ask the Cubmaster, Committee Chair, or the Pack Trainer.
- After you have turned in your adult application and you have received your membership card you will need to go back to the “MyScouting” website and enter in your membership number in your profile. This will allow the district to tie your future training classes to your profile.
Roundtable
The BSA supports a monthly Roundtable all over America for Pack leaders and interested scout parents.
Roundtable meetings are:
- A program forum for leaders to exchange ideas, solve problems and share successes.
- A program to help you and your leaders be better leaders and mentors.
- A program that leads to new discoveries and adventures for your Scouts to enjoy.
- A program that helps you find resources, recognition and opportunities for networking.
- A program that helps share new, creative and innovative ideas for your unit.
- A program filled with information, fun, inspiration, demonstrations, displays, action, training, beneficial information, learning and enthusiasm.
- A program that will help you and your unit achieve success in all that you do!
Leader Uniform
Leaders are strongly encouraged to be in uniform whenever participating in Scouting events. A Leader Uniform consists of a Leader Shirt, typically short sleeved, with all required patches (World Crest, Unit Numerals 180, and Council patch). The neckerchief and glide are optional for leaders.
